Short Course in Further Nutrition

This course is suitable for anyone who has generally read around the subject of nutrition, who has developed a passion for it and wishes to study it to a higher level - but purely for interest.  This is an opportunity for the inquisitive mind to find out the ‘whys’ and the ‘hows’ in the fascinating world of nutrition.  It focuses on many of the aspects contained within the Basic Health Sciences Diploma course, but without the clinical content (the application of knowledge in a clinical setting):

  • The properties of food
  • Understanding how foods can be preserved, what causes them to spoil, understanding E numbers
  • How flora within the digestive tract can influence health
  • Digestive problems such as constipation, IBS, heartburn, coeliac disease
  • The importance of liver detoxification
  • The detrimental effect of free radicals within our bodies, and how we protect ourselves from them
  • Reducing blood pressure, normalising lipid profiles (incl. Cholesterol)
  • Diabetes and Syndrome X
  • The impact of stress and how to minimise its effects
  • Low energy issues
  • Building a strong immune system
  • Overcoming arthritis
  • Respiratory illness – including asthma, bronchitis
  • Skin complaints – including eczema, psoriasis, rosacea
