Entry Requirements: Level 1 - Basic Health Sciences Diploma
This level builds on and develops the theory and knowledge gained at level 1, Basic Health Sciences. The focus moves to assessing health status and developing the skills to use food as therapy in clinical practice with basic supplementation. Clinical application is reinforced through the completion of a series of detailed case histories.
Modular material includes:

concept of health & aspects that impact on well-being; dietary analysis; menu planning - including specialist diets e.g. vegetarian, vegan; interactions between food and nutrients;

weight management / obesity / eating disorders / mental health;

infertility / pregnancy & post-natal care / children's health / male and female health;

impact of stress on the body

detoxification;

functional testing in the assessment of client status;

developing clinical skills - incorporating communication skills, reflective practice, presentation skills, referral, confidentiality, legislation, codes of practice, practice management; improving research skills.

Successful completion at Level 2 will enable the student to practice as a dietary therapist using food as the principle source of therapy, and to obtain practitioner insurance, a requirement for practice.
